Vietnam Energy Summit 2020 is organized by the Government and the Central Economic Commission.
The Energy industry has developed rapidly
Opening the Forum, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh - Head of the Central Economic Commission affirmed that energy is a technical economic sector that plays an important and pioneering role, and is the foundation for socio-economic development. of the country. Energy development is a strategically important task to realize the goal of industrialization and modernization (CNH-OSH).

Recently, the Party and State have had many guidelines and policies for energy development. Up to now, the energy industry in general and the Electricity industry in particular have made rapid developments, basically completing the set goals and tasks; becoming a dynamic economic sector, making important contributions to socio-economic development and national defense and security.
The energy industry is also transforming according to market mechanisms; has mobilized private economic sectors to participate in the energy sector, especially the development of renewable energy.
However, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh also said that our country's energy industry still has many limitations, and the goal of ensuring national energy security still has many challenges. The Politburo issued Resolution 55/NQ-TW with innovative, strong and groundbreaking perspectives. The resolution has received positive reviews from the domestic and foreign business community, and consensus from the entire political system. Good implementation of the Resolution will create breakthrough developments for Vietnam's energy industry in the coming time. However, for Resolution 55 to come to life, it requires strong, comprehensive and drastic participation from the Government, ministries, branches, localities, the business community and the entire society, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh emphasized. strong.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, implementing Resolution 55 of the Politburo, recently, the Prime Minister and the Government have developed specific action programs. Some key tasks include perfecting institutions, building and implementing the National Energy Development Strategy and development strategies for energy sub-sectors such as coal, electricity, and the Energy Master Plan. national power development plan, national electricity development plan...
In particular, the Government is gradually transforming the energy sector to operate according to market mechanisms. In particular, Vietnam's electricity industry has been operating under the competitive wholesale electricity market model since 2019. The adjustment of retail electricity prices has been implemented according to the market mechanism, with State control. The Prime Minister also directed the construction and early completion of the Project to develop a competitive energy market by 2030, with a vision to 2035; ensuring to closely follow the policies, orientations and solutions of Resolution 55, including early completion of the competitive retail electricity market by pilot in 2022, fully operational by 2023...
EVN proactively implements Resolution 55
Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of EVN's Board of Directors said that EVN has well performed the tasks assigned by the Government in ensuring electricity supply for the country's socio-economic development with increasing electricity demand. an average of 10.5%/year in the period 2011-2019.
To date, Vietnam's power system has a total power capacity of over 55,000MW, an increase of 2.7 times compared to 2010, ranking 2nd in Southeast Asia (after Indonesia) and 23rd in the world. Vietnam's power grid infrastructure is currently at the top of ASEAN countries.
EVN has supplied electricity to 100% of communes and 99.52% of households across the country, including electricity to 99.25% of rural households.

Also according to Mr. Duong Quang Thanh, implementing Resolution No. 55/NQ-TW of the Politburo, EVN has built the Group's Development Strategy to 2030, vision to 2045 and submitted it to the Prime Minister for approval, with criteria and targets closely following Resolution 55. In addition, the Group also set a number of targets that are ahead of Resolution 55; including the construction of a synchronous transmission grid system with power centers, especially new and renewable energy power centers.
In recent times, some areas with strong development of renewable energy such as Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan have had local overloads in the transmission grid. Faced with this situation, EVN has invested and put into operation 500kV and 220kV substations and is now basically releasing the full capacity of solar power plants in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan. From now until the end of 2020, together with the substations invested by EVN, in coordination with the 500kV Trung Nam substation, all solar power plants in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan areas will have their capacity released and no longer have problems. overloaded, Mr. Duong Quang Thanh said.

In the Development Strategy, EVN also sets out a roadmap to build a smart power grid system, improve the efficiency of applying science and technology of the 4th industrial revolution, promote digitalization, and strive to reach the year 2025 complete transformation into a digital enterprise.
The Group strives to have 100% of 110kV transformer stations remotely controlled and unmanned after 2020; For 220kV stations, it is after 2025.
EVN is also researching building systems to compensate for the shortage of renewable energy sources during times when electricity is not generated. Specifically, the Group is researching the construction of a Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant in Ninh Thuan - right in the wind and solar power development area. The Group coordinates with American consultants to research and install electrical storage systems throughout the national grid system, to ensure the storage of renewable energy sources in the near future.
In the immediate future, the Group is coordinating with the Institute of Energy to report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote the construction of a synchronous transmission grid system with power plants and power centers to add to the adjusted Electricity Planning VII. , as well as electricity planning VIII in the coming time, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development, national defense and security according to the guiding spirit of Resolution 55.
In addition to the high-level session taking place on the morning of July 22, Vietnam Energy Forum 2020 also has 4 thematic seminars taking place on the afternoon of the same day.
